Lucy Campos

A TRAILBLAZER

While Lucy Campos may only be a forty-minute drive from her home in Elkhart, Indiana, she is a trailblazer in the eyes of her family: Lucy is a first-generation college student. Although Lucy initially selected Holy Cross College because of its financial benefits, she has truly fallenin love with the community, the familiarity between fellow Saints, and the opportunities that Holy Cross has to offer

REAL WORLD EXPERIENCE

Lucy envisions Holy Cross as a small school with big school benefits, meaning that HC offers diverse opportunities, numerous resources, and strong support to their students. Taking full advantage of this, Lucy presides as president of the Psi Chi Honor Society, works in the Development Office to plan HC events, partakes in many research opportunities, and engages in internships.

“I am not just a number or a statistic here at Holy Cross; I have come to realize that I am someone who is important, and someone who has a lot to contribute,” Lucy confided.

For instance, in the summer of 2019, Lucy participated in a competitive, two-month internship in Washington D.C with the Congressional Hispanic Institute. The financial aid and personal support that she received from Holy Cross allowed for this hands-on experience.

“Holy Cross College has allowed for real world experience. Because of this, I have already had the chance to work with people ofdiffering skills, approaches, and beliefs. We often get stuck in our narrow way of thinking. But, when we are exposed to new opportunities, it is incredibly eye-opening –even life changing,” Lucy shared

NEXT STEPS

An English and Psychology major with a Political Studies minor, Lucy has many options after graduation. While certain she wants to go to grad school, she is still figuring out the exact path that she plans to take. When it comes to location, Lucy is open to living in a bigger city with more opportunity for networking; however, she also considers staying in South Bend due to the city’s projected growth.

“With South Bend constantly growing and improving, there are a lot of opportunities coming up here. I wouldn’t be opposed to being part of,and giving back to,my community,” Lucy concluded.

“I am not just a number or a statistic here at Holy Cross; I have come to realize that I am someone who is important, and someone who has a lotto contribute.”
